TOMLINSON FUNERAL HOME 718 South Main St. Swainsboro, GA 30401 Ph. 478-237-3691 10/28/2013 William Benjamin Sherrod (Bill Sherrod) of Swainsboro, Ga., born on Oct. 2, 1930, passed away on Oct. 28, 2013 at his home after an extended illness. Bill will be welcomed into heaven by his parents William B. Sherrod Sr. and Caroline Parrish Sherrod of Emanuel County, one brother Orville J. Sherrod of Savannah, his sisters Lenora Jacobs of Swainsboro, Ga., Kathleen Burke of Boston Mass., Juanita Thompson of Savannah, Ga., Bertha Fulmer of Twin City, Ga. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dean Smith Sherrod of Jefferson County, Tenn. Together they had five children; William Sherrod of Vidalia, Ga., Rhonda Johnson of Swainsboro, Ga., Debbie Wilson of Swainsboro, Ga., Tammy Jeffers of Augusta, Ga., and Tim Sherrod of Swainsboro, Ga. Mr. Sherrod has ten grandchildren which are Jamie Purvis, Korey Sherrod, Jesse Ervin, Cassie Way, Kristie Brantley, Derrick Wilson, Tiphany Walker, Dustin Jeffers, Adam Sherrod, and Catelyn Sherrod. Mr. Sherrod is also survived by twelve great grandchildren which are Brycen and Jayden Purvis, Michael Wilson, Madison and Noah Brantley, Alissa and Kylie Wilson, Cadence, Camden and Caleit Walker, and Addison and Gracie Jeffers. Bill is survived by one sister, Ada McNeely of Swainsboro, Ga. and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, many special friends, and close friend of the family Diane Donaldson of Missouri. Bill was a self taught carpenter and worked for many years in heavy construction in Savannah, Ga. He then returned to finish his career in Swainsboro where he worked for the Emanuel County Board of Education Maintenance Dept., the Emanuel County Commissioners, and as a deputy for the Emanuel County Sheriffs Office. Bill will be remembered by so many people from working at the fairgrounds, the racetrack, and also the Haunted Trail in Norristown at Halloween. Bill also helped establish the 911 Call Center and to help establish the Drug Task Force in Swainsboro. He also was an active member working at the Emanuel County Museum, volunteered in the school system with the FBLA reunion each year, serving in the refreshment section. He was active in the 4H and was voted Man of the Year in 1994-1995. Until we see you again daddy, we love you and miss you so much already. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Nary and Reverend Ray Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jesse Ervin,Adam Sherrod,Korey Sherrod,Donnie Purvis, Giles Way,Dustin Brantley,Derrick Wilson and Dustin Jeffers. Flowers are welcomed and those that desire may make a memorial to Hospice Advantage,7 Allen Call Dr. , Ste. A, Statesboro,GA 30458 in memory of Mr. Bill.
