Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mr. William Joseph Hughes age 82 of Swainsboro on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at his residence.

William (Bill) J. Hughes, 82, was born September 11th, 1941, in Worcester, Massachusetts, passed peacefully at home with his children on October 19th, 2023, his beloved late wife's birthday. Bill and Beverly (Bev) were married for 57 years before her passing in 2015. Bill was a lifelong resident of the Douglas area, where he and Bev raised their 5 children. Bill retired from the State of Massachusetts in 1998. In 2000, Bill and Bev retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and later settling in Swainsboro, Georgia. They spent their summers at their cabin on Boyd Lake in Maine, where they enjoyed their friends and family. Bill was a man of few words who loved being outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Bill's greatest passion in life was his wife Beverly, his family, and their dog Cricket.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, daughter Roberta Greene, and brother Edward (Pudge) Hughes.

Bill is survived by his children Brian (Sharon) Hughes, Debra (James) Fennell, Wayne (Becky) Hughes, and Jeanne (Bill) Ferguson, and 9 grandchildren.

Bill will be laid to rest alongside his wife and daughter at the South Douglas Cemetery.
