February 1,2014 Mr. Verlyn E. Smith, 68, resident of Bartow,Georgia, died Saturday afternoon at University Hospital in Augusta,Georgia. Mr. Smith was born in Washington County , son of the late Eugene T. and Ruth Mae Josey Smith. He had lived there all of his life. He had retired from the Textile Business. Verlyn was a member of Josey Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. He loved to visit the local nursing homes and hand out bibles to the residents. He was preceded in death by family members Emily Smith, Lamar Smith, Josey Smith, Clifford Meeks and a grandson Blake Meadows. He was very close to his mother in law, the late Lena Allene Clark. Funeral services for Mr. Verlyn E. Smith will be held Tuesday , February 4,2014 at 2:00 P.M. from Josey Baptist Church with Reverend Jeffrey Meeks, Reverend Vina Mae Josey and Reverend Lewis Farrow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family of Mr. Smith will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home Monday evening between the hours of 6-8 P.M. and will be at their home.
