Mr. Otto Preston Wiggins

Mr. Otto Preston Wiggins, age 93, of the Oak Park, died Friday, November 8, at Vidalia Community Hospice, after an extended illness.  He was born February 9, 1931, in Tattnall County and had lived in Oak Park for many years.  He attended Lower Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.

Mr. Wiggins served in the United States Army as a Private First Class, beginning his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was stationed in Korea for 12 months, and returned to Fort Myer, Virginia, where is he was part of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, when he was honorably discharged in 1953.

Shortly after being discharged, he worked as a firefighter for the City of Savannah.  His next job as a commercial truck driver spanned many years and he was associated with McLean, Yellow Freight, Consolidated Freight, Carolina, P.I.E, and Arkansas Best Freight.  He was a loyal FOX news listener, and enjoyed watching various sports events, westerns, and NASCAR.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Shuman; parents, John B. Wiggins and Okella Kirby; brother, Ollen Wiggins; and half-brother, Marvin Faulkenberry.  Mr. Wiggins had a faithful Amazon parrot, "Poncho", whom he adored for 35 years.

His family includes one daughter, Norma Elaine Wiggins of Savannah, and one son, Richard Otto "Rick" Wiggins of Oak Park; and one sister, Ann Wiggins Parker of Ellabell.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, November 30, beginning at 11 o'clock at Lower Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, 474 GA Highway 86 East, near Oak Park.
