Margie Kirby Canady Hall, 87, resident of Nunez, Georgia , died Friday morning at her home. She was the daughter of the late Horace Greely Kirby and Shellie Strange Kirby. Margie was preceded in death by her husbands George W. Canady, Jr. and Ira L. Hall, Jr.; brothers-- Horace Carlton Kirby, James Gaston Kirby, and Charles Victor Kirby; 3 sisters-- Corine Kirby Gaffney, Hazel Kirby Ricard and Martha Ann Kirby Mason. Margie attended Wesley School and transferred to Swainsboro High School and graduated in the Class of 1949. She had been a member of the Emanuel County 4-H. Margie owned and operated Matt's Mart in Nunez for 36 years. She had served as Mayor of Nunez from 1993 until 2007. Margie was dedicated to her office as Mayor and to each resident of Nunez. She was a member of the first class of First Responders taught in Emanuel County. She was active in the Nunez Fire Department and was a member of the Emanuel County Rural Firefighters. She was a member and past president of the Swainsboro Lions Club and was a board member of the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes, Herrington Homestead. Margie had served on the board of East Georgia Health Care. She had raised her children attending the Nunez Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and served with the W.M.U. Later in years, she joined and was an active member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She was a charter member of United Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. from Nunez Baptist Church with Tommy Kirby officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lige Moore, Ricky Thompson, Steve Kirby, Todd Hooks, Kevin Gay, and Ricky Hooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Courtney Terwilliger, Mike Strowbridge, Members of the Emanuel County Fire Service, Members of the Emanuel County First Responders and Swainsboro High School Class of 1949. The Family will receive friends Sunday evening between the hours of 6-8 P.M. at Tomlinson Funeral Home.
