Obituary

Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mrs. Joy Lavonne Sconyers Chapman Nasworthy 83 of Swainsboro on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at her residence.

Joy was born in Swainsboro to the late Willie Grady "Pete" and Sallie Lee Brinson Sconyers. She grew up and attended school in Swainsboro. Joy retired from banking after 35 years. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She had two wonderful daughters and grandson that she adored. She enjoyed keeping Levi when he was young and the many times that he came to spend nights.

She enjoyed flower gardening and reading, especially Southern Living. Joy was an avid Atlanta Braves, and college football fan. Her main passion was golf. She was introduced to the game by Woody and fell in love with it. She was 60 years old when she started playing. Woody and Joy always took vacations playing golf. They played in many states and met many friends along the way. She always kept her score cards to compare if she was improving. She loved the outside and the beauty of nature.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband Gerald Y. Chapman, brother Douglas Sconyers, Sisters Inez Sheets, Grace Holton, and Hazel Nasworthy.
