Obituary

Tomlinson Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. John Claxton, age 84, of Swainsboro, GA on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 7, 2016 at 10:30am in the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Clarence Thompson and Rev. Lamar Kersey officiating.

The family will receive friends at Tomlinson Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Mr. Claxton was born December 15, 1931, to Eddie C. and Christine Sullivan Claxton of Swainsboro, GA, and was a 1950 graduate of Swainsboro High School. He was co-owner of Claxton Brothers Logging and had enjoyed his retirement for more than 22 years. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church of Thomaston, Georgia, and attended Ebenezer Methodist Church in Kemp, GA.

Mr. Claxton was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, a sister Nancylon and a brother Marvin Willis Claxton, Sr.

His wife of 66 years, Martha Youngblood Claxton of Swainsboro, GA

Two Sons: John George Claxton (Denise) of Swainsboro and Eddie Kim Claxton (Sheila) of Harrison, GA

One Daughter: Denise Claxton Murray (Ernie) of Evans, GA

One Brother: Garland Dock Claxton, Sr.

Two Sisters: Carolyn Claxton Kirby and Frances Claxton Sumner

Seven Grandchildren: Monica Jon Claxton Woodward; April Marie Claxton Dechert (Tony); John Benjamin Claxton (Kelly); Wesslie Murray Freeman (Brad); Ernest Craig Murray, Jr. (Lindsey); Spencer Slaton Murray and John Conner Murray.

Five Great-Grandchildren: Martha Grace Woodward; Kyle Benjamin Claxton; Jonna Hope Woodward; Evan Roberson Claxton; Allison Faith Woodward.

Pallbearers are George A. Youngblood, Wyatt Youngblood, and grandsons Ben Claxton, Brad Freeman, Ernie Murray, Spencer Murray, Conner Murray, and Tony Dechert.

Honorary Pallbearers are David Brantley, Don Wilkes, Marvin Kersey, and nephews Dock Claxton, Jr., Steve W. Claxton, Larry Boulineau, Willis Claxton, Jr. and Keith Claxton.
