Obituary

Jimmie I. Dukes, age 87, passed away on June 5, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Dukes was the son of the late John R. and Katherine W. Dukes.  He lived in the Wadley area all his life.  He was employed by Anglin's Produce for many years and retired from Forstmanns in Louisville.

Mr. Dukes was a member and senior deacon of Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church.  He had also served the church as clerk, treasurer and song leader.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, having seen combat during the Korean War.  He received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Ribbon with two Bronze Stars as well as an Overseas Service Bar.

Mr. Dukes was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Esten, Grady, Jessie, Theron, and Bennie.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years Annette Moxley Dukes; his sister Sarah Ellen Ledger and her husband, Paul; his sister in law Bessie Ruth Dukes; his sister in law Carolyn M. Canady and her husband, Edwin, of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Dukes will be held at 2:00 pm June 8th at Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church, Wadley with Elder Emerson Proctor, Rev. Clarence Thompson and Rev. Chris Shoemaker officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 pm.  Burial will follow at Swainsboro City Cemetary.

Pallbearers are Gregory Ledger, Lonnie Ledger, Jarrett Ledger, Keith Ross, Will Ross, and Tommy Dukes.
