Mr. James Daniel Tarver, Jr., 96, resident of Wadley, Georgia, died Sunday afternoon at his residence.  Mr. Tarver was born in Wadley, son of the late James D. Tarver, Sr. and Lillie Mae Ratchford Tarver.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Eloise, and a son Robert Lamb.  Mr. Jimmy was a  United States Army Veteran of WWII and had served as the Postmaster of Wadley for many years.  He was a member of the Wadley First United Methodist Church where he had served faithfully as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  When something needed to be fixed at the church, Mr. Jimmy would get it done.  He was a member of the Wadley Lions Club.

Funeral services for Mr. Tarver will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wadley Baptist Church with Reverend Tom Harrison, Reverend Gene McCoy and Reverend Chris Shoemaker officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Bethany Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: George Ratchford, Jr., David Gunn, James Handberry,  Bob Swan, Tommy Battle, Greg Gaston, Keith Hall, Allen Goodson, Joe Pundt, Dan Tarver, Brannon Bargeron, Jason Combs, and Ben Hayslip.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dudley Gunn, George Ratchford, Sr., Charlie Roy Hall, Gary Ware, Deacons  of  Wadley Baptist Church and members of the United Methodist Men from the Wadley First United Methodist Church.  The Family will receive friends at Wadley Baptist Church Tuesday one hour prior to the service at 2:00 P.M.  Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Survivors include:  wife-- Audrey W. Handberry Tarver

Children:  Sue Hayslip and  James Daniel (Jim) Tarver III (Betty Rose)

3 stepchildren:  Louie Handberry, Jr.(Sherri),  Debra Ann Handberry (Richard)

Anthony Alan (Tony) Handberry (Amanda)

Grandchildren:   Ben Hayslip (Melissa), Kimberly Combs (Jason), Daniel Tarver(Melissa) and

Brooke Tarver

9 great grandchildren

Arrangements are by  Smith Funeral Home of Wadley.
