Obituary

Graveside services will be held for Garnett Coleman Odom, age 66,  on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. the Brinson Cemetery in Canoochee. Reverend Keith Claxton will officiate. Mr. Odom passed away in Swainsboro Saturday August 12 after a long illness.

A long time Emanuel County resident, Mr. Odom was born June 23, 1951 and   the son of the late Grace Bailey and Garnett Odom. He was reared  in South Carolina and Florida but returned each summer to be a part of the Bailey cousins in Summertown.

A graduate of Escambia High School in Pensacola , Florida ,  Mr. Odom attended Mercer University in Macon graduating with honors with a  BA and Masters in History. He attended  Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville Kentucky and returned to Emanuel County pastoring many middle Georgia area Baptist Churches including Nails Creek and Higgston Baptist.

Mr. Odom was an accomplished musician both instrumentally and vocally.   He was a member of the Light House Singers.   Mr. Odom  was known for a deep love of sports and as a brilliant sports statistician and historian.   A kid at heart, his cousins from three generations will cherish  memories of his playful and enthusiastic nature and his ever faithful parting words of love.

Mr. Odom is survived by his daughter Hope Nicole Odom and one grandson, Layton Lindsey of Swainsboro.    He is also survived by his sister and husband, Gloria and Bill Lawless of Milton , Florida . He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores ( Teeny Baby) Key.
