Mr. Francis Lawton "Frank" Wimberly  died Thursday night at University Hospital in Augusta.  Frank  was born in Washington County,  son of the late H.L. Wimberly and Mary Lovett Wimberly.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Earlene Wimberly, his son Robert Wimberly, and a brother Alfred Lovett Wimberly.  Frank  was a member of the class of 1952 at Swainsboro High School  and was named to the Swainsboro High School Hall of Fame in 2018.  He attended Auburn University and Graduated from Austin  Peay University with degrees in Biology, Agriculture  Science, and English. Frank was a dual scholarship player.  He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds .   He was named Young Farmer of the year for the State of Georgia in 1962,  and  set the record for the highest yields for non irrigated  crops. Mr. Wimberly served his country in the National Guard.    Frank was an avid organic gardener  and had won many gardening awards.  He hosted many family BBQS for the holidays.  He loved his family. Mr. Frank was a member of the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home  with Reverend Jim Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery .  Pallbearers will be:  Frank Wimberly,III,  Alf Wimberly,Jr. Blake Johnson, Billy Boulineau, Pete Sumner, and Dr. Chip Price.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Class of 1952  and Wyatt Youngblood ,Moscow Dawkins, Emery Fennell and Ronald Braswell.

The Family will receive friends Saturday  March 2, 2019 at Tomlinson Funeral Home between the hours of 5-7 P.M.

Grandchildren- Brooke Boatright Johnson, Frank Wimberly,III, Jessica Wimberly, Hannah Hogan, Hayley Hogan, and  Elizabeth Gross.
