Donnie Knight aged 71 of Vidalia, Georgia died Monday October 24, 2022, at Community Hospice in Vidalia after an extended illness. He was born in Waynesville, Georgia. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School, class of 1970. He worked the Southern Company for 35 years as a supervisor in outage control. After retirement, he began working for the Tumi company as an inventory control supervisor.
Donnie was involved in many community service activities throughout the years. He was a foster parent for Toombs County; over the years he fostered many children from Toombs and surrounding counties. He was a frequent blood donor for the American Red Cross as well. He loved fishing, enjoyed woodworking and building, helping people in need, and spending time with his family. Although a former member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he found a home at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church and was baptized as a profession of faith on June 15, 2022. He was preceded in death by his natural parents, Emory Lloyd Knight Sr., and Alma Rosalie Knight, his brothers Lloyd Knight, Charles Knight, his sisters Laverne Hardee and Hazel Anderson, and his son Ricky Knight.
Donnie Knight is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Joyce Ann Knight; children, Michelle Purcell (Dudley), of Waynesboro, Georgia, Glenn Kniceley (Rachel) of Hardy, Virginia, Terra Ramey (Scott) of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Staci Martin (Jimmy) of Lake Havasu, Arizona and Chris Laufer of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Grandchildren Danielle Knight, Gabrielle Knight, Stonewall Kniceley, Katie Kniceley, Hunter Laufer, Rayann Ramey, Kevin Kniceley, James Martin, Aubrey Martin, Kristin Laufer, and Austin Laufer, his Great Grandchildren include Isabelle, Jason, Xander, Reagan, and Dakota, and his sister Barbara Louise Barnes (James) of Uvala, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church in Uvalda, Georgia, on Friday November 11, 2022, at 5 pm. It will be a celebration of life and everyone is encouraged to share stories of Donnie during the celebration.
