Theo Harris (Dick) Fountain Sr. passed away on Thursday December 22, 2011 . After a brief hospital stay the previous week, Mr. Fountain went home under hospice care where he died attended by his family. Mr. Fountain had been a diabetic for several years and died due to complications of that disease. Theo Harris Fountain was born at home on the family farm in Wilkinson County on September (Friday) 13, 1929 to Frank Mathew Fountain and Annie Lou Whitaker Fountain. The night Mr. Fountain was born, a Wilkinson county doctor George (Dick) Dupree delivered him and 2 others. His family referred to him as Dick's baby and the nickname "Dick" stuck with him all his life. He was the youngest of 7 children with 3 brothers (Fred, Frank Jr and Jack) and 3 sisters (Edna, Rupert and Arilla), none who are still living. Mr. Fountain attended and graduated from Wilkinson County High School. He was drafted into the army in 1948 and served as an MP during the Korean War. After discharge from the Army in 1951, Mr. Dick, as he was known to many in the community, joined the Georgia Highway State Patrol and was stationed at the Swainsboro post. He chose Swainsboro since it was the closest post to Wilkinson County where he was born and raised. Theo left the State Patrol in the early sixties and started his own business placing juke boxes, pool tables and other entertainment machines all over southeast Georgia . In 1972, Mr. Fountain made another change and founded Twin View Nursing Home serving as owner and administrator until the facility was sold to Tommy Irvin's sons in 1985. Mr. Fountain then owned and managed rental properties as well as served as a bondsman until the end of 2010 when he retired due to health reasons. Mr Fountain was a member of Gateway Worship Center non denominational church in Swainsboro where he donated the land that the building is located on near East Georgia College. Although not a politician himself, Mr. Fountain also enjoyed talking about local, state and national politics. Dick was always an excellent source to find out what was going on in the local community as well as knowing about state and national events. Mr. Fountain was a people person and a source of happiness over the past few years was spending time with Norma, family and friends. Surviving family are his wife Norma Jean Ayris Fountain, 4 sons (Theo Jr., Richard, Mark and Wesley), 8 grandchildren (Casey, Arlie, Ragan, Theo III (Trey), Richard Jr (Ayris), Jordan, Madison and Abigail) and 5 great grandchildren (Caitlin, Emily, Landen, Bailey and Laney). A memorial service will be held on January 7th at 11:00 am at the 1st United Methodist Church of Swainsboro. His ashes will be buried at Snow Hill Methodist Church in Wilkinson County where most of his family and ancestors are buried. As an alternative to flowers, due to Mr. Fountain's association with law enforcement earlier in his life and his relationship with the local Sheriff's department as a bondsman, the family would appreciate donations to the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes.
