Tomlinson Funeral of Swainsboro announces the death of Mr. David Lloyd Jones SR. age 81 of Lyons. Mr Jones was born December 22, 1933 in Lyons Ga. David was one of 10 children born to Fredrick and Suzy Mae (Dewitt) Jones. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Tiny Mae Nickelson Jones. David and Tiny spent 56 years together sharing a life of great love and family, until her death in 2012. David was retired from the Toombs County Sheriff department after serving as Chief Deputy then Sheriff for over 22 years. Mr. David as most refer to him was a good, kind hearted man that believed everyone deserved a second chance if they were willing to work for it. He would even ask people he had previously arrested, if he had ever treated them bad or harsh and he would always get the same reply. "I've never heard a bad word said about you sir". David's favorite way of passing time was fishing and gardening. He told one of the nurses that attended him while in the hospital that he had just gone fishing with his son David Jr, and that David was the best fishing partner, he baits my hook, takes the fish off, cleans them and takes them home to eat"All I have to do is pull them in he said with a chuckle." Due to the great love for Jehovah and Jesus Christ that his wife had instilled in him, Mr. David with very limited eyesight, began to study the bible several years ago and encouraged his grandchildren and great grand children to do so. He even had a special room added to his home so that anyone who wanted to learn the truth about the word of God could come and study. At the time of his death each Friday and Saturday saw upwards of 7 individuals who did just that. Poppa as he was referred to by his grandchildren and great-grand children was a hero to many, the rock of the family. In looking back on his life, several of his grand children have commented that "he told us what we needed to hear even if we didn't want to hear it", "he took care of us even when we didn't take care of ourselves". He just made you want to do what was right, so you wouldn't disappoint him. David's heartfelt desire was to join his beloved wife Tiny and family after his resurrection into Paradise. He wanted his family to be there with him and encouraged them to do what was right and straighten their lives out and live according to bible principles. Poppa would not want his family to be sad and heartbroken, he is where he wanted to be, in Jehovah memory waiting for the time when he can see again, hold his wife Tiny's hand again and they together can joyfully say..Life without end at last.
