/20/2015 Mr. Ander L. Hopkins, resident of Swainsboro, died Friday afternoon at his residence. Ander was born in Chiefland, Florida son of the late Dalton L. and Elvia Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Hopkins and a greatgrandchild- Kaden James Rogers. In 1964 Ander and his 3 brothers saved an indeterminate number of people from an impending explosion by removing over 40 sticks of dynamite along with the detonator and the battery from under a train track in Miami. For this act , he was awarded the Carnegie Hero Fund Commision Award. He was a United States Army Veteran and had worked as a commercial fisherman. Funeral services for Mr. Ander L. Hopkins will be held Monday morning at 11:00 A.M. from the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Chaplain James Bracken officiating. Pallbearers will be: Mark Webber,William Hopkins,II, Keith Hopkins, Eric Webber, Zac Sherrod and Andy Claxton. Honorary pallbearers will be : Ryan Williams, Dakota Kersey, and Kyle Durden. Interment with military honors will follow in Eastbrook Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Monday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Tomlinson Funeral Home. Survivors include his childrenHoward Hopkins(Debbie), Carrie Rich(Curtis), Adam Hopkins(Holly) and Scottie Hopkins.
